Overview

THE WAYS OF WATER.The waterways retraces ancient paths where we find fountains, wash houses, mills that testify to the ingenuity of man and his way of organizing the territory and its resources. The route crosses the territories of Spiazzi/Village/Croce.

To be seen

The church of San Giovanni Battista, the village with its characteristic wooden houses, the Croce district, the original nucleus of Spiazzi. Splendid landscapes on Lake Garda and the Baldo.

The waterways retraces ancient paths where we find fountains, wash houses, mills that testify to the ingenuity of man and his way of organizing the territory and its resources.

Start from Villa Carlotti, through the passage on the right, then on the left, before the road curves, steps lead to the CAI 662 path which leads to a cobbled road where, on the left, there is an old capital. Keep to the right and, once you have passed an elegant villa, turn into a small square with a fountain, continue to the left and soon you are in front of the Gaon washhouse: on the right the structure of an old mill that once had a large wheel outside. lavatoio di Gaon di Sotto; sulla destra la struttura di un vecchio mulino che aveva un tempo una grande ruota all’esterno.

Turn right and you are in the square with the church of San Rocco, protector against the plague: statue of San Rocco at the entrance, inside a vaulted roof and a presbytery with polychrome marble and several statues of saints.

We return and take the small road to the left of the fountain and then immediately right to reach the other fountain-washhouse of Gaon di Sopra:

Going up you come to a capital with the Madonna della Pietà: above the painting two angels with crowns and below a pedestal with the cross of the Knights of Malta:

Terre Rosse

The small road leads us, past the "red lands", a flat path in the woods, to the small square of Vilmezzano. Here there is the "Church of Carmelo": a 15th century building dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel, inside a single nave with terracotta flooring, a trussed roof, a stoup in red Verona marble; along the walls floral decorations with medallions, a small internal chapel and some very interesting altarpieces.

The itinerary continues to the right of the church along a road which then becomes a path. Finally, you reach S. Michele, follow the main road for a few meters and, between the houses, you take a path on the right that leads to Caiar in a few minutes, near a fountain known since 1827 called ”pink fountain” for the color of its marbles.

Continue to the right of the fountain, between the houses an arch leads to a small square where we can admire a fresco. Go down on the left and immediately take a stairway to the right which in a few minutes takes you to the beginning of via IV Novembre and then to our starting point.
